I have a lot of stories about Emery. She is really turning into a crazy little girl!
Emery loves to take the paper out of the printer when something is done printing. The second she hears it go off, she runs over and waits (and kind of does a really impatient dance) for the paper to come out!
Besides hitting and pinching and all that, Emery loves to tell Kade, “No no!” Or if we are doing something she doesn’t like, she says, “No…no, noooOOO NO NO NO NO NONONONONO!” She’s kind of dramatic (I wonder where she gets that from…).
Emery loves to wear her boots. She also likes my boots, but I think she prefers her boots. She will randomly put them on and walk around the house in them. She also loves to get the baby spoons out of our silverware drawer just to put in her mouth. I find them all over the house stuck in random spots.
Emery is very oral. On Sunday when I was doing my hair for church, Kade came in the bathroom and said, “where is Emery”? That right there concerned me because they are usually ALWAYS together, even if they are doing something bad. I told him I didn’t know and we both ran out to find her (they were watching a show together when I started my hair). I heard her in the kitchen and asked what she was doing. She came around the corner of the kitchen with a piece of gum in her mouth. I promptly took it out and went to find where the rest of the gum was. I got sick to my stomach when I saw an entire pack of gum wrappers empty on the floor. Yep, Emery ate an entire pack of gum. Well, an entire pack minus two pieces because Kade chewed on the night before and I took one out of her mouth. She was acting totally fine and after talking to the nurse from her doctor’s office, I calmed down a bit and was told that all I could do was wait for it to pass. They also told me she might have diarrhea from the sweetener in the gum.
It made for a very interesting Sunday! Emery was fine through sacrament and most of the second hour, but at the very beginning of third hour when I went into the young women room to drop off my stuff (it was my turn to give the spiritual thought and lesson) someone said that Holly (Emery’s nursery leader) was looking for me. I ran around the church twice looking for her! Everyone that I passed said, “Holly has Emery and she’s looking for you!” I guess we were both walking the same direction, but we were on opposite ends of the church so we kept walking in circles trying to find each other!
I had to use the bathroom so my friend Shantyl and Lindsey were both on Holly duty in case she came back to the young women room while I was in the bathroom. Sure enough while I was in the bathroom Holly found them and Shantyl brought her to me. I checked Emery and the poor girl needed a new outfit. I fortunately had packed a new outfit for her in the car in preparation for her pooping through her outfit, but unfortunately I left it in the car when I came into church! Shantyl watched my heavy bag while I ran to priesthood to find Sterling so he could hold emery while I ran out to the car to get the outfit. Emery was in a lot of pain and was crying a lot so she wanted her daddy.
I finally got the outfit, and Emery in the bathroom and got her all changed. She had two really bad burns on her leg from her poor diaper. Oh, did I mention that the gum she ate was cinnamon? I’m sure it didn’t feel too good coming out! TMI? Sorry! Anyway, Shantyl is in YW with me so she went and told them that I would be there in a second and I ran Emery back to class! I only had about 20 minutes to do my thought and lesson, but it all turned out well! I’m grateful that I have such great friends and I will be keeping a much, MUCH closer eye on little Miss Emery!
Emery also ate a piece of crayon that Sunday as well as a bite of chalk and some of a diaper wipe. She seriously puts everything in her mouth. Yesterday she took a bite out of a potato in my pantry and ate it, and she climbs on my table and takes bites out of the fruits in the bowl. I leave the fruit there are just cut the bit piece out when we want to eat the fruit.
With Emery being so oral, it’s been really difficult to get her off of her pacifier. She only gets it when she is napping or going to sleep now, and doesn’t really ask for it much during the day unless she is tired or cranky. One Sunday after church she was so tired and kept asking for her binky. It was about five oclock and way too late for her to take a nap, but way too early for her to go to bed. I told her no and that she would have to go to bed if she wanted it. About a minute later I heard, “Mommy! Mommy! A bed! A binky!” and went and found that she climbed into her crib so she could have her binky.
Emery has recently fallen in love with being naked. She stripped down naked four times over two days. The second time was when Sterling had just gotten home from work and I was making supper. Kade was playing the kinect and I saw Emery come out of the toy room to play with him, but I only saw her out of the corner of my eye so I didn’t pay much attention to her. I noticed that she didn’t have a shirt on, but that happens about a million times a day so I didn’t think much of it (Kade and Emery take their shirts off to eat their meals, or just for fun). Suddenly I heard Sterling say, “EMERY!” I thought she hit or bit Kade so I said, “What did she do?!” He said, “She’s naked!” I looked at her and saw that she had no clothes on at all. I got her dressed and then checked the entire toy room for potty because she likes to pee when her diaper is off. She is crazy!
Emery with no shirt on, wearing her boots, chewing on a baby spoon.
Emery is a very polite little girl though. She says,” please, thank you and you’re welcome” without being prompted and even says, “excuse me” after she toots! She also laughs after she toots, but so do I so I can’t blame her for that!
One evening when Emery was in bed with us (haha I say that like it’s not a regular occurrence. In all actuality, Emery ends in bed with us sometime in the middle of every night. I know, I’m a horrible mother!), she woke up because I coughed. I didn’t even realize she was awake until I was done coughing and she said, “Bless you!” I was kind of taken aback and said, “Thank you.” She replied in the sweetest little voice and said, “You’re welcome Mommy.” So I said, “Goodnight, I love you Emery.” She said, “Goodnight. I love you.” It made me so happy!
Emery is quite the mess maker. Here are just a few messes she has made lately:
Ahhh the joys of cereal for supper!
Can you see how her eyebrows and hair have sticky milk in them? Yummy!
This was actually after breakfast one morning. She make a mess like this in no time!
Somehow she got a pen and wrote all over the ottoman.
This is powdered ginger that she grabbed off my counter and poured all over the toy room and herself.
Aside from being messy and crazy, Emery is also really smart and talented. She is excellent at puzzles and visual things. She knows her shapes and even knows some of her letters. She is working on counting and usually says, “1, 3, 6, 10. Ready not, I come!”
Kade is quite the compassionate and patient older brother! Emery has started picking on him quite a bit and for the most part, he deals with it really well. She scratches, bites and pulls hair, and he usually does nothing in return. I will hear him saying, “Ouch! Stop it baby girl!” I’ll ask what is going on and he will say, “Oh, Emery scratched me” or “Emery bit me. But it’s okay.” She has been put on time out quite a bit lately from those kinds of behaviors!
Some of the scratches she has given him!
